In the beginning, many generations ago, we were all human, untainted and balanced. Life on Fenorra had been like this as long as anyone could remember, and as long as the oldest story could tell. It is said our world was kept balanced by the Darrani. Their very presence kept all our ancestors whole, and pure. One day, late in the winter months a bright light appeared in the sky. The light got brighter and brighter until it came crashing down to our world and collided into the domain of the Darrani. Our world as it was known perished that day. The people of Fenorra began to change, mutate into creatures so horrible that words could not describe. By the next full moon, it is said that all on Fenorra were changed, nothing left of their former selves. Only a few remained unchanged; they were the lucky ones. Perhaps their skin was tougher, or their minds were stronger. It is not known why the few remained human. As for the Darrani, their very skin was broken apart. Each one of them split into two. One half of their being remained in their Domain, the other half disappeared, and it is unknown if it is still in existence. Terror and confusion broke out all across the continent of Fenorra. The great Kingdom of Kalentec fell in just a few days, leaving behind nothing but death and ruins. People would awaken to find their sons, daughters and loved ones changed into horrible beasts. All of the land remained in a state of panic. War broke out amongst friends, as for some reason, they now hated each other. The entire land remained in disarray for uncountable generations. Since that fateful day, the mutation remains. Children are born with it, and elderly die with it. It has now become the way of life, and accepted as inevitability. Most have heard the tales of the great cataclysm, but at this point it is just a story to tuck the children into bed. Some of these new “races” have found peace and solitude living with only their own kind; others remain and mingle with the rest. As for the Domain of the Darrani, none dare tread there. It is not known what beings now reside in this domain, only that they are missing a part of themselves, or so states the legend of Fenorra. |
